Most Art That is Stolen is Taken from Private Homes and Organizations

in Transnational Crime

According to Robert Wittman, former FBI Art Crimes investigator, 52 percent of all stolen artwork is taken from private homes and organizations, with 10 percent being stolen from art galleries and 8 percent from churches.
