Movie Piracy data of Oscar films
The Los Angeles Times yesterday brought attention to the posting of Andy Baio, over at Waxy.org, who released six years of raw piracy data concerning screening films given by the Academy Awards to its judges.
Today, Andy offers his analysis on the data and offers up this statement:
Screeners aren’t leaking as often, not because the MPAA’s protecting them better, but because they’ve made the whole process moot by providing higher-quality, easier-to-acquire copies before screeners are released, in the form of R5 and retail DVDs.
Movie piracy is a $18.2 billion market.
