China claims counterfeits are overestimated
Chinese authorities are stating that the amount of counterfeit goods being made in China is being exaggerated.
From Reuters (via Yahoo News):
A Chinese intellectual property official said on Tuesday the world is overestimating the amount of counterfeit goods made in China, and blamed “expensive” copyright goods for driving consumers to fake goods.
“There is a certain amount of pirated DVDs sold in China that are produced outside of the country,” Yin Xintian, the director of the State Intellectual Property Office, told reporters.
While Yin did not provide any details, he said some counterfeiters were importing fake goods into China to avoid Beijing’s crackdown on these items.
