Yaba Trafficking into Thailand

In the first seven months of 2011, police in Thailand seized 241,916 methamphetamine pills, known in the region as yaba. The pills were seized entering Thailand from Laos over the Mekong river.

The traffickers fill their shoes with ya ba pills and smuggled them into the black market of Thailand. One pair of shoes can hold up between 1,000 to 2,000 tables of yaba.

The drug trafficker makes up to $168 (5,000 Thai Baht) to smuggle the drugs into Thailand.
