HIV/AIDS prevention funding on sex workers

in Transnational Crime

According to the Joint Nations Programme on HIV / AIDS, less than one percent of all funding worldwide to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS is spent on prostitutes. This is despite the fact that studies have shown that sex workers “experience higher rats of HIV infections than in most other population groups.”

For example, up to 50 percent of prostitutes in South Africa is estimated to be infected with HIV / AIDS, while one in every 200 prostitutes in China is infected with the virus.
