Identity Theft in Florida

According to the US Attorney in Miami, the rate of identity theft in Florida is 361 complaints of id theft for every 100,000 residents. The rate of identity theft in Florida is the highest rate in the United States.

Miami has the highest rate of id theft complaints in the state, with 645 complaints for every 100,000 residents.

Most of the identity theft cases in Florida involve stealing a person’s tax return.

In 2012, authorities prosecuted 270 people for identity theft crimes in Florida that involved 76,700 victims and $449 Million in fraudulent tax refund claims.
