After being arrested by law enforcement troops, a 16 year old told the media that she was paid $1,000 (12,000 Mexican Pesos) for working two weeks for the Zetas cartel. The teenage girl told security officials and the media that she was trained to be an assassin by learning how to shoot Kalashnikov assault rifles. It was not immediately clear if the teenage girl actually killed anyone or simply trained to be an assassin.
The amount paid by the drug cartel to the teenagers is three times higher then the national average in wages for two weeks work.
Up to 30,000 minors work in the drug trafficking industry in Mexico.
